En Échelon Geosolutions is a geoscience consultancy supporting leaders in the geothermal energy industry, their partners, and community stakeholders with research, assessment, and monitoring of hydrothermal resources and infrastructure.

Recent Projects

  • EEG worked with industry leader Ormat Technologies, Inc. to demonstrate the utility of quantitative, drone-based thermography in geothermal applications. Our innovative methods include calibrating and ground-truthing airborne thermal surveys. See examples of similar work in Services.

  • Over the past year, EEG has worked closely with the 501(c)(3) HERO on hydrothermal and EGS resource assessments for public utilities, tribes, and ambitious cultural development projects.

  • Owen Callahan and Trenton Cladouhos (Quaise Energy) coauthored a report on the State of the Art of heat extraction from superhot rock (>374 °C) for Clean Air Task Force (CATF).

  • This past summer, Owen Callahan and Amanda Jackson (Stanford University) conducted geologic investigations, including desk studies, field reconnaissance, and drone surveys, of a Basin and Range play for Open Mountain Energy.

  • EEG supported Mazama Energy and HERO in grant writing for DOE and BLM solicitations, helping Mazama secure millions of dollars of funding for their SuperHot Rock Enhanced Geothermal System (SHR EGS) demonstration at Newberry Volcano, Oregon, as part of the DOE Geothermal Earthshot.

Owner

Owen Callahan, PhD, LG, is a licensed drone pilot, certified thermographer, and geothermal geologist with expertise in faults and fractures in hydrothermal systems. He began working in the geothermal energy sector in 2007, and has participated in multimillion-dollar DOE projects in California, Oregon, and Nevada, regional assessments for public utilities, and greenfield exploration for private companies. He earned his doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin and completed postdoctoral research at the Bureau of Economic Geology and the University of Washington on geologic constraints on induced and paleoseismicity. Dr. Callahan founded En Échelon Geosolutions to facilitate geothermal research, exploration, and development from proposals to operations.
